The City Commission of the City of Oanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at the
City Mall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 2:00 o'clock P M January 2, 1947.
Present: Commissioner M.James Gut, Mayor.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Consideration next given to the matter of entertaining City employees with a
barbecue with a view to establishing closer relationship between the employees of the
several departments and aleo between employer and employees.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, Commissioner Mill moved that the City
entertain all white employees with a barbecue sometime during the month o f January, and
that such entertainment be made an annual affair.

Letter next read from Mr Edward Mlggins, Manager of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce,
submitting a report of the commitments made in securing the Toledo Baseball Club for
spring training in Sanford, and arranging for the Chattanooga Baseball Club to conduct the
training shcool; stating that the City's only obligation to the Toledo Club is the main-
tenence of the grounds for the one month period they will be here, beginning March ?, and
the only obligation to the Baseball Training School is allowing them the use of the ball
park for one month, which they will maintain and recondition if necessary in order to
deliver it beck to the City in a satisfactory playing condition.
The Chairman then submitted a letter from Mr. Zinn Beck, General Manager of the
Chattanooga Baseball Club, outlining their program for using the Municipal Ball Park for
their baseball training school to be conducted in Sanford for one month, beginning January
20, in which he agreed to maintain and keep the field in good condition, subject to
inspection and approval of the City, while it ie being used for this purpose, and will
as
deliver it back to the City in at least as good a condition/Then turned over to them.
The Chairman also read a telegram from the Toledo Baseball Club advising that they had no
objections to the Chattanooga Baseball Club using the Ball Park for their training school.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, the Mayor, Commissioner Williams, City Manager,
Supt. RiChard and a representative of the Sanford Baseball Association were appointed as
a committee to confer with Mr. Beck of the Chattanooga Club, with a view to working out
satisfactory arrangements for using the ball park for their training school.
Further consideration next given to the request of the Sanford Giants, colored baseball
team, for the City to erect a grandstand in their ball park in order that they may qualify
to enter the Colored Florida State League.
Thereupon the City Manager reported that he hsd secured information on the colored
grandstand in Orlando that was reoorted by the Sanford Giants as having been erected
during the past year, and found that it was constructed over ten years ago when the cost
of building materials were at the very minimum.
Thereupon after considerable discussion and in view of the fact that theCity has
no funds available for this purpose, the mat%er was ordered tabled.
