022647-Adjourned Session MINUTES CiTY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, Feb. 26 ~t l:00 P M 19. 47 437 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida at l:00 o'clock P N February 26, Present: Commissioner H. James Gut, ~ayor. 1997 " George D. Bishop " Les R. Lesher " Robert A Willlems. City Manager & Clerk M.N. Sayer Absent: Commissioner Andrew Carraway. Meeting called to order by the Chairman who announced that the purpose of the meeting was to confer with representatives of the War Assets Administration relative to the City's application for a portion of the Sanford Navsl Air Station property to be class- ified for uses as a public airport and the remainder for educational and public health purposes. Messrs Jenkins and Weaver, representatives of the War Assets Administration then sub- mitted a ma~ of the Sanford Naval Air Station showing that portion of the property that had been classified as airport property to Oe conveyed to the City, consisting of approx- imately 1426 acres of land, including runw~ys, taxiways and aprons, field drainage, mark- ers, lighting , water and sewer distribution system, electrical system, and the builCings described as hangar, aviation utility shop, photo laboratory, station maintenance shop, They also advised that a certain area B.0.Q,J.0. Q, Commanding OfficerS' muarters, c~assified for institutional purposes to be synthetic trainer, practice bomb storage, armory, fire station and garage. including buildings described as dispensary, end E×ecutive Officers' muarters had been acquired and used by the Fernald-Laughton Memorial Hospital; that the area and buildings described as administration, instruction, link trainer,recreation, subsistence, cooks quarters, brig, and four of the barracks had been classified for institutional purposes to be acquired and used by the West Virginia Training School, Inc. f~or operatlng a vocational training school; and that the remainder of the air base property had been declared surplus and will be sold, the City having first priority to 0urchsse it as the a~praised fixed price. Thereupon after consideraOle discussion and on motion duly carried,the City ~anager was authorized and directed to address a letter to the War Assets Administration advising of the City's intent to purchase at a fair market value, that portion of the Sanford Naval Air Station property that has not been classified for ~se as a public airport or for institutional purposes.
