CitY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, Narch 12 at 2:00 P N 1947
The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at
the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida at 2:00 o'clock P ~ ~arch 12, 194y

~eetlng called to order by the Chairman who announced that the purpose of the meeting
was to confer with representatives of the Sanford Baseball Association with respect to
their application to lease the ~unicipal Athletic Field for a period of one year instead
of the baseball season.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, as a result of which it was felt that it
would be for the best interest of the City to retain control of the baseball park during
the winter season because of utilizing it for ~pring training programs for major baseball
clubs, and on motion duly adopted, the City Attorney was authorized and directed to pre-
pare a lease agreement to be entered into with the Sanford B~seb~ll Association for
leasing the ~unicipal Athletic Field during the 1947 baseball season of the Florida
State League.
Consideretlon next given to the request of the Sanford Giants colored baseball
team to use the municipal athletic field on Sundays that the Ssnford Base,all Association
will not be using it.
Nr. George Stine, President of the Sanford Baseball Association then advised the
Commission that such arrangements would not be satisfactory because of their past
experience last season; also advising that they had agreed to assist the Sanford Giants
Baseball team in erecting a grandstand for the colored baseball park by donating $1OO.O0
in cash and the proceeds from the colored attendance of their first three games.
Thereupon after hearing the unfavorable reports on the use of the baseball park
by the colored team during last season, it wes decided
stand and use their own ball park for playing all games,
Williams, seconded by Commissioner Lasher end carried,
that they should erect a grand-
and on motion of Commissioner
the Commission authorized a
contribution in amount of $100.O0 to assist the Sanford Gisnts ~asebell Club in erecting
a grandstand in the colored baseball park.
Nr Stine next requested that in extending invitations for major baseball clubs
to,rise the ~.~unlcipal Athletlc Field for spring training purposes, that the Commission
give consideration to securing a club that will cooperate and be beneficial to the local
club, steting that it is their endeavor to affiliate with a major club that will furnish
them with players and also some financial assistance.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, the Chairman appointed a Baseball Committee
consisting of Commissioner ~llliams, Edward Hlgglns, ~anager of Seminole County Chamber
Commerce, and Geo. Stine, President of the San ford Baseball Association, to handle
all negotiations in connection with securing a major baseball club to conduct a spring
training program in Sanford, such negotiations to ~e subject to the approval of the City
Commission.
There being no further business the meeting then adjourned until 8:O0 o'clock
