A~.~ The City Commission of theCity of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session as a tax equalization board at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Mlorida at ?:30 P M August 4, 19~7. Present: Commissioner H.James Gut, Mayor. , George D.Bishop , Andrew Carraway , Robert A Wlllla~m City Attorney Fred R Wilson City ~anager & Clerk H N Sayer Deputy City Clerk Gordon L Bradley Absent: Commissioner Lea R. Lesher. Meeting called to order by the Chairman who directed the Clerk to read the notice of this meeting that was published in the Sanford Herald on July 22, 23 and 24,1947 as follows: NOTICE is hereby given to the owners and/or agents of all Real Property within the City of Sanford, Florida, that it is the intention of the Tax Equalization Board of the City of Sanford, Florida, to increase the assessed valuations on all Real Property a flat ten per cent for the year 194~. The City Commission of the City of Oanford, Florida, will sit in final session as a Tax Equalization Bo&rd at 7:30 o'clock P.M.August ~, 1947, %o act upon the proposed increase in assessed valuations , and all persons desiring to file objections or complaints .shall have an opportunity to be heard at this meeting. The Chairman then addressed the audience, stating that the Equalization Board would be glad to hear any objections from persons desiring to file protest or complaints against the proposed increase of lO~ in the assessed valuations of all Real Property for the year 1947. Mr E.F.Housholder, property owner, then spoke in favor of the proposed increase in assessed valuations of ~eal property and recommended that it be increased even greater in order to equalize the assessed valuations with the current cash values. Nr J D Wright, representative of Patrlc Fruit Company, property owners, also recommended that the assessed valuations of real property be increased because of the great advance in cash values of all property during the past year. There being no objections registered from the audience, the Clerk then submitted a letter of protest from Edgar D.Mobley, agent of rental property, claiming that the taxes under the present assessed valuation are too high in comparison with the revenues derived therefrom. Thereupon after further discussion, and there being no other complaints or objections registered, Commissioner Carraway moved that the City Tax Assessor be instructed to increase the assessed valuations a flat 10S on all Real Property for the year 1947. Seconded by Commissioner Williams and carried unanimously. The Board then approved the 1947 Tax Roll with the loS increase in assessed valuations of all Real Property and adjourned as an Equalization Board. The Commission then re-convened to handle any other matters that may come before it at this meeting. Application next received from Patrick Fruit Company for permit to install gasoline pumps and underground tanks on the street right-of-way in front of their storage garage located on Lee Avenue between First and Second Streets for the purpose of operating a service station at said location. Thereupon after considerable discussion, Commissioner Carraway moved that %he aforesaid permit be granted. Seconded by Commissioner Bishop and carried over the dissenting vote of Commissioner Williams. MINUTES placed in the program of the Florida Junior Chamber of Commerce Summer Conference to be held in Sanford on August 9-10,1947. The City Nanager next advised that Congrezs had paseed Senate Bill No. 364, amending the surplus property act of 19~4, which will grant municipalities the privilege of requesting title to entire surplus airports , including buildings and personal property, for the purpose of renting and using the proceeds therefrom for the perpetuation and maintenance of the "airport nucleus." Thereupon after considerable discussion, and on motion duly carried, the City Nanager was authorized and directed to file application with the Civil Aeronautics Administration for transfer to the City of the balance of the Sanford Naval Air Station property , including all the land and buildinge, and the necessary personal property to furnish and equip such buildings that the City has applications to lease with. personal property included.
