The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 8:00 o'clock P M. April 18,1949. Sayer Deputy City Clerk Gordon L. Bradley Meeting called to order by %he Chairman. Further consideration was next given to the proposals, as received by the Commission at the regular meeting of April llth from John Nuveen, Chicago; Ranson-Davidson, Miami; Leedy,Wheeler & Alleman, Orlando; and B.J.VanIngen, Miami; to act as Fiscal Agent for the City in handling the financirg of all proposed projects to be constructed under the proposed Municipal Utility. Matter taken under advisement. Consideration was next given to the report as submitted by the City Manager relative to salaries of the Fire Department in comparison with other cities of similar size. Thereupon Commissioner Stemper moved %hat the salaries of the members of the Fire Department, with the exception of the Chief, be increased $5.00 per month for each year of satisfactory service, with a maximum increase of $20.00 per month, that the Chief's salary be increased from $246.50 to $265.00 per month, effective March 16, 1949. Seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried. full by the Commissioner Chase next offered Resolution No. ?49, and after being read in Clerk moved its passage and adoption. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANMORD, FLORIDA, to ABANDON PLANS HERETOFORE ADOPTED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CERTAIN REST ROOM FACILITIES AND CERTAIN TENNIS COURTS IN THE CITY OF SANMORD, FLORIDA, AND TO CANCEL THE APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS HERETOFORE MADE FOR SUCH PURPOSES. WHEREAS, in the year 1946 certain plans were contemplated by the City Commission of the ~ity of Sanford, Florida, for provision of rest room facilities on property which is now occupied by the Sanford Bus Station, and an appropriation in %he amount of Twenty-five Hundred ($2500.00) Dollars was made for such purpose, and WHEREAS, at the time of erection of the present Sanford Bus Station an agreement was had wits the owners of such property that they should provide in %ne bus station which they have built on said premises rest room facilities which should be available and open to public at all times, which facilities have been provided, and WHEREAS, in the year 19~6 the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, contemplated construction of certain tennis courts within the City of Sanford, Florida, and made an appropriation for such purpose in the amount of Three Thousand ($3,000.00) MINUTES CiW Commission, Sanford, Florida, .......... ~p.~.~,.! ],.~_a~...~'-..QQ- -P- ~.._19.49. been made available for public use, and the acquisition of other tennis courts useable for the general public, there now exists no further need for the tennis courts of which construction was planned, and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of °anford, Florida, after due con- sideration of the premises, deems it advisable and in the best interest of the City of Sanford, Florida, that the aforesaid proposed projects for construction of certain rest room facilities and certain tennis courts be abandoned. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, that the aforesaid proposed projects for construction by the City of Ssnford of rest room facilities and of tennis courts be, and the same are hereby,abandoned, and that the appropriations made for such purposes be, and the same are hereby cancelled. (SEAL) Commissioner Dyson then moved that the City borrow $12,528.00 from the unappropriated funds of the Public Projects Fund, for the purT~ose of making full payment of purchase of new fire truck. Said funds to be repaid from the 1949-1950 budget. Seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried. Seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried by the Commissioner Carraway A~e " Chase AYe " Oyson Aye " Krider Aye " Stemper Aye following vote of the Commission Said Resolution No. 750 being in words and flgures as follows: RESOLUTION NO. ?50 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY CO~.9~ISSION OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, DISAPPROV- ING CERTAIN LEGISLATION PROPOSED FOR PASSAGE BY THE 1949 SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, RECOMMENDING TO THE LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION FROM SEMINOLE COUNTY THEIR OPPOSITION TO SAME,AND PROVIDING FOR NOTICE TO SUCH DELEGATION OF SUCH DISAPPROVAL AND RECOMMENDATION. WHEREAS, it has been brought to the a%tention of the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, that certain legislation has been proposed for passage at the 1949 session of the Legislature of the State of Florida, such proposal belng designated as Senate Bill No. 85, relating to taxes, levying and imposing a fuel oil tax and an ex- cise tax on fuel oil, and further provisions in reference thereto, and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, after due con- sideration of such proposed legislation, is of the opinion that the same would be undesirable and not for the best interest of the people of the City of °anford. NOW~ THEREFORE. WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, that certain legislation has been proposed for passage at the 1949 session of the Legislature of the State of Florida, such proposal being designated as Senate Joint Resolution No. 100, proposing amendment to constitution of the State of Florida by authorizing the Legislature to provide for the levy and collection of taxes for municipalities, and for other municipal relief, and, WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sanford considers that it would be to the best interest of said City that such legislation be passed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by She City Commission of the City of Oanford, Florida, that said Commission does hereby approve the aforesaid Senate Joint Resolution No. 100, and does hereby recommend to the legislative delegation from Seminole County, Florida, that they use every effort for passage of said legislation. Hlckson as Motorcycle Patrolman at a salary of $174.56 per month, effective April l, 19~9 to fill the vacancy created by resignation of Timothy Donohue on March 31, 19~9. On motion of Commissioner Stemper, seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried, the Commission next approved and authorized payment of current invoices and payrolls for Oeen %he month o f March 1949, as evidenced by voucher nos. 2789 thru 2909. Same having/examined and approved by the Finance Committee. Financial Statement and statement of revenues and. expenditures during month of March 1949 submitted and examined. On motion of Commissioner Stemper, seconded by Commissioner Chase and carried, the Commission next authorized a donation of $50.00 to the Seminole High School Band, same being the amount of license fee paid for the Shrine Minstrel Show to be held at the High School Auditorium on April 23, 1949.
