The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall
in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 8:00 o'clock P. M. June 27, 1949.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Minutes of the regular meeting of June 13th next read and approved.
Mr. A. G. Clause of 2521 Orange Avenue, next appeared before the Board and requested the
City to put some clay on Orange Avenue south of 25th Street, due to the fact that the street
is not paved and very sandy, which makes it difficult for vehicles to traverse said street.
Thereupon after considering the condition of the street, the City Manager was instructed
to have it repaired.
Mr. A. B. Peterson, Jr., next appeared before the Board relative to his request for a two-
year franchise for mounting a three-sided sign on the parking meter posts, and advised that
after canvassing the merchants on First Street he did not receive any objections and had
secured commitments for approximately 100 orders.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, Commissioner Stemper moved that the City c~tact
some of the merchants and if favorable comments are received, the City approve the plan and
that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.
Seconded by Commissioner Chase and carried.
Ordinance No. 452, entitled:

introduced and placed on its first reading at the regular meeting of June 13, 1949, was
next placed on its final reading and read in full by the Clerk.
Thereupon the roll was called for final passage and adoption of said Ordinance No. 452
the vote being as follows:

Thereupon the Chairman announced that the City Commission of the City of Banford,
by unanimous vote had passed and adopted said Ordinance No. 452, entitled:

On motion duly adopted Ordinance No. 452 was next ordered POSTED at the front door of
City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, in accordance with the terms of the Charter.
Commissioner Dyson next offered Ordinance No. 453, entitled:

and same was placed on its first reading md read in full by the Clerk.
On motion of Commissioner Dyeon, seconded by Commissioner Stemper and carrLed, the Com-
mission next authorized payment of $9,0?9.65 to Bumby & Stimpson, Inc., for services rendered
in repaying Southwest Road. Said amount to be paid from the appropriations in the Public
Projects Fund for Street Paving and Drainage.

Consideration was next given to the action taken by %he

The City Manager advised that the distance from the nearest light is approximately 1050 feet
and that 300 feet is the maximum distance which the Florida Power & Light Companyis requlred
to extend their lines under their agreement with the City. However, if the City would authorize
the installation of a light at the intersection of Celery and Douglass Avenues, the Florida
Power & Light Company would install both lights at no cost to the City.
Thereupon Commissioner Dyson moved that the City have e street light installed at the in-
tersection of Celery and Douglass Avenues in addition to the o~ authorized at the intersection
of Celery and Summerlin Avenues.
Seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried.
Consideration was next given to the matter of an increase in wages for Public Service De-
partment employees and the request of Howard Faville, City Building Inspector, for an ad-
justment of salary to correct appro×~mtely six hours daily now required to do the work as
compared to four initially agreed upon and thought necessary.
Thereupon Commissioner Stemper moved that these matters be tabled pending consideration of
next year's budget.
Seconded by Commissioner Dyson and carried.
Consideration was next given to the list of saleable City-owned property together with the
selling prices as suggested by the Real Estate Board and ~ose of the Tax Assessor.
Thereupon after reviewing the list, Commissioner Krider moved that Lots 39 and 40 of
Lake View Park be removed from the list, and t~atthe list be submitted to the local realtors
for sale.
Seconded by Commissioner Stemper and carried.
On motion of Commissioner Stemper, seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried, the City
Nanager was next instructed to contact the State Road Department relative to making the
needed engineering surveys f or the widening of French Avenue.
Consldera. tion was next given to the establishment of a Welfare Plan, including retirement
plan, for City employees, as submitted by the Deputy City Clerk.
Thereupon the Nayor appointed Commissioner Chase and the City Attorney to investigate the
possibility of the e~tablishment of such a plan for f2urther consideration by the Commission.
On motion duly adopted the Commiss~n next denied the request for a license to sell beer
and wines at the ~tore opposite the Nunicipal Ball Park at Celery and Nellonville Avenue.
On motion duly adopted the Commission next denied %he request of St. Johns Electric
Company for a Private Parking Space adjacent to their building at First Street and Nagnolia Ave.
There belng no further business the meeting then adjourned until ?:30 o'clock P. N. June 30,
