The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in/regular session at the City
Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida atlY:30 o'clock P N October 29, 1949.
Present: Commissioner Andrew Carraway, Mayor.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman,who announced that the purpose of the meeting was
to ~ive further consideration-tootle.street ~ighting contraot,Wit~ F~.e~l~a Power & Li~ht~o.
which terminates~on November 29, 1949, but sub~ect to ~ren~wa~*fer an ~ad~Zt~onal~lE$ years
unless'the City elects to terminate same by serving written notice upon the Florida Power
andoLight Company thirty days prior to smid ter~inatlen~ate; aisc,, to transact an~her
business that may come before the Board,at this time.
Commissioner Chas~ the~ advised that~the Street Lighting Committee had met with officials
of the ~lorlda Power & Light Company relative to securing a reduction in rates under a new
co~tract,~and in order to'extend the~time:for further negotiations, the said officials had
agreed to accept the Clty's notice of termination of the existing contract as of November
29, 1949, and to hold said notice with the understanding that the same may be revoked and
canceled by the City within thirty days from date.
Thereupon after careful consideration, and on motion of Commissioner Krider, seconded
by Commissioner Stemper and carried, the Clerk was authorized and directed to deliver
to the Florida Power & Light Company the following written notice terminating the street
lighting contract as of November 29,1949,
together with the following accompanying letter:

You are~hereby notified that the City Commlssxon of uno City of Sanford, Florida,
at an adJourne~meeting held this date have directed me to give you this written notice in
accordance with the provisions of the contract for street lighting dated November 29, 1939,
mow existing between the City and you and renewable November 29, 19~9, unless terminated,
that the City of Sanford hereby elects to terminate, and does hereby terminate such contract.

Gentlemen:
Under the eame date herewith I am delivering to you at the instruction of the City
Commission of the City of ~anford, Florida, letter terminating the existing contract for
street lighting between the City of ~anford, Florida, and you.
This letter is delivered to you subject to and in accordance with the understanding
had with you by the City representative that the same will be held and may be revoked and
cancelled by the City at any time within thirty days from date.

Commissioner Chase next introduced Resolution No. ?66, and after being read in
full, moved its passage and adoption.
Seconded by Commissioner Krider and carried by the following vote of the Commission~:

Title to said Resolution No ?66 being as follows:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANFORD FLORIDA, ADOPTING THE PRO-
VISIONS OF CHAPTER 25385, LAWS OF FLORIDA, 1949 AS THE PROVISION FOR ABSENTEE VOTING IN
ANY AUTHORIZED MUNICIPAL ELECTION HEREAFTER HELD BY SAID CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, AND
AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF SAID CHAPTER AS THE SAME SHALL APPLY TO SUCH MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
TO PERMIT THE CITY CLERK TO RECEIVE APPLICATIONS FOR ABSENTEE VOTER BALLOTS AND BALLOTS NOT
LATER THAN 5:00 O'CLOCK in THE AFTERNOON OF THE THIRD DAY PRECEDING ANY SUCH ELECTION.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, that the provisions
of Chapter 25385, Laws of Florida 1949, relating to absent voting, be and the same are
hereby adopted by the City of Sanford, Florida, as the governing provisions, except as
hereinafter provided, for absentee voting in any authorized municipal election held in
said City of Sanford, Florida, provided, however, that the provisions of said chapter
25385, Laws of Florida 1949 ae the same shall apply in authorized municipal elections
held in the City of Sanford Florida, be and the same are hereby amended to provide that
the City Clerk shall not receive application for absent voter balls nor such ballots
later than 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon of the third day preceding any such election.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall become effective immediately upon
its passage and adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 29th day of October, 1949.
