Present: Commissioner H.Jamee Gut, txayor. " George D. Bishop " L~a R. Lecher # Robert A Williams City Manager & Clerk H N Sayer Absent: Commissioner W. C Meeting called to order by the Chairman. The City Commission then recessed for the purpose of making a personal [aspect[on of the City's dump in order to give further consideration to the petition submitted at the meeting of June 24, to have [t removed from the City because of being unsanitary and a publ lc nu[sanoeo ed Thereupon the Board re-convened and proceed/to a ffurther discussion of the inspection, as a result of which it was found that the dump was in a sanitary and orderly condition, and no signs of being infested with rate, flies and mosquitoes, which are kept exterminated by periodically spraying with DDT disinfectant and rat poison. After careful consideration and upon being advised that this dump has been in operation at [ts present location for the past twenty-odd years under close inspect[on of local representatives of the State Board of Health, who have always given a satisfactory report on its condition and approved its operations, [t was the opinion of the Commission that th[e dump [s not a public nuisance and not detrimental to the health of the citizens siding in the vicinity, and that no action should be taken to have [t removed at this time l[r. R.T.Oowan next appeared before the Board with further reference to hie request for an opt[on for 90 days to purchase all of the City owned lots [n Bel Air subdivision and outlined his proposal to use this property for constructing houses [n the low pr[ce bracket for veterans; to recondition the City's ex[sting 12" sanitary sewer from the rail- road north to Celery Avenue that [s located between Mellonv[lle and Douglass Avenues; install the necessary sanitary sewer laterals in Bel Air, Magnolia Heights and Ban Lanta Second Section Subdivisions and connect same to said 12" Sanitary sewer, which will be adequate to serve this property. Thereupon after considerable discussion ae to the feasibility of Mr. Cowan's proposal to use the existing sanitary sewer for serving this area, Commissioner Bishop moved that this property be withdrawn' from the market for a period of 60 days for the purpose of granting Mr. Cowan sufficient time to employ competent engineers to make a survey to de- termine whether or not the proposal ie practical, and if such survey is favorable, that Mr ' Cowan be granted an option to purchase these lots at terms to be agreed upon. Seconded by Commissioner Williams and carried. There being no further business the meeting then adjourned until ?:30 o~clock P M July 1,1946. Attest:
