CitY COMMISSION, SANFORD,
The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the
City Hall in the City of Ssnford, Florida, at ?:30 o'clock P M September 5, 19~6.
Present: Commissioner H.James Gut, Nayor.

Nesting called to order by the Chairman.
Messrs Alex Johnson and Forrest Gatchell next appeared on behalf of the Central
Florida Quick Freeze & Cold Storage Company, Inc, and requested a permit to instsll and
operate an abattoir in conjunction with their quick freeze locker and cold storage plant at
~01-09 West Thirteenth Street; ststing that they will use a modern type of e0uipment which
is designed so there wll be no odors from the operations of the abattoir; also, submitted a
letter I'rom the Florida State 9oard of Health advising thst they had approved the plans and
specifications for this abattoir and commending the Central Florida Quick Freeze end Cold
Storage Company for installing the most modern abattoir in the State of Florida.
The Clerk then advised the Commission that Section 310 of the Old Revised Ordinances
of the City prohibits the operations of butcher pens and slaughter houses within the City
limits.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, the City Attorney was directed to prepare for
consideration of the City Commission at its next regular meetlng, and ordinance amending
Section 310 of the Old Revised Ordinances so as to provide for the operation of abattoirs,
of which the construction has been approved by the State Board of Health of the State of
Florida and are operated in accordance with rules and regulations prescribed by said Sta'te
Board of Health.
Mr. Johnson and Mr Gatchel next requested the City to lease the Central Florida
Quick Freeze & Cold Storage Company, Inc, a part of the municipal waterworks property
located immediately south of their cold storage plant for the purpose of constructing a small
holding pen to be used in connection with the proposed abattoir.
