Mr. M.G. Loftin next appeared before the Board and submitted a proposal to con-
struct and operate a public bus station on the City owned property described as
Lots 35,36,37 and 38 of Lake View Park, located at northeast corner of Commercial
Street and Hood Avenue, providing the City would convey this property to him for
this purpose without any cost; stating that the estimated cost of constructing the
proposed bus station amounted to approximately $30,0000.00; that it would be avail-
able to all bus lines, and would have adequate waiting rooms and rest room facilities
for white and colored people, which would be available to the public at all times.
Thereupon after careful consideration, Commissioner Bishop moved that the City
grant Hr. Loftin an option for 120 days to suOmit plans and specifications of the
proposed bus station to the City, and if such plans and specifications meet with the
approval of the City Commission, that the City convey the aforesaid property des-
cribed as Lots 35,36,37 and 38 of Lake View Park to him for and in consideration of
the sum of one dollar, to be used for the purpose of constructing and operating a
public bus station thereon in accordance with the plans outlined by Mr Loftln, con-
ditioned that the use of ssid 0ullding and land for a period of ten years shall be
for the purpose of operating a public bus station. Also, thst the City grsnt Mr
Loftin au option to ~urchase lots 39 and 40 of Lake View Park, adjacent to the
aforesaid property at a price %o be agreed upon.
Seconded by Commissioner Williams and carried.
Application next received from the Colored 'Nelfare League for permission to use
the Municipal Baseball Park for playing three exhibition baseball games, and on
motion duly adopted, same was denied.
Application next received from Roy A.ReHdlng for permit to sell beer and wines
at 1515 W. Thirteenth St, and on recommendation of Chief of Police, same was approved.
Application next received from Dan Calhoun, colored, for permit to operate a
taxi-cab, and on motion duly adopted, same was denied because of sufficient colored
taxi-cabs being operated to meet the puOlic demands.
Application next received from Mrs L.L. Vaughan for permit to operate a liquor
package store at 1001 French Avenue, and same was denied because of said location
being outside of the liquor zone.
Taere being no further business the meeting adjourned until 2:00 o'clock P.M
October 2, 1946.
