100246MINUTES The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 2:00 o'clock ? ~ October 2, 1946 Present: Commission H.James Gut, Nayor. " Geo. D.Blshop " Lea R. Lasher " Robert A Williams City Manager & Clerk H.N.Sayer. Absent: Commissioner W.C.Hill. Meeting called to order by the Chairman who announced that the purpose of the meeting wes to confer with the Tourist Committee of the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber of Commerce with reference to constructing "Tourist Information Booth" and to handle any other business that may come before the Board at this time. Thereupon the aforesaid committee submitted a drawing of the proposed Tourist Inform- ation Booth, size 20'x20', concrete block structure with counters, display racks and toilet facilities, to be erected on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company's property located on Seminole Boulevard immediately east of the American Legion Hut, whlcn they propose to operate during the tourist season for furnishing information, free orange Juice, celery and other attractions for winter visitors. After considerable discussion and careful study of t~e drawings, the Commission that the Tourist Information building snould be located zoo property at southwest corner of Park Ave. and Seminole Boulevard, and that it should have adequate restroom facilities to accomodate the general pu01ic, and as a result the Commission agreed to authorize the expenditure of the sum of $2,500.00 appropriateC in the current year's budget for constructing restrooms, together with the sum of $2,000.00 appropriated for constructing a tourist information booth, for the construction of such a 0uilding, and authorized the Junior Chamber of Commerce to have plans and specifications prepared for further consideration of the Board. Request next received from a group of Veterans of Foreign Wars to use the Municipal Baseball Park during the months of October and November for training and playing semi-pro baseball. Thereupon after careful consideration and on advice of the City Manager that the City will have to start reconditioning the field in November for spring training, the Commission authorized the Veterans of Foreign Wars the use of the b~seball field only during the month of October. Application next received from Harry Tooke Jr. to construct and operate an auto- mobile service station at southeast corner of French Ave and Fourteenth St., and to construct driveways thereto without providing for a safety island at the street corner as required by Ordinance No. 291, re6ulatlng the construction of driveways. Thereupon after careful consideration, Commissioner Williams moved that permit be granted Harry Tooke Jr. to construct and operate an automobile service station at southeast corner of French Ave. and ?ourteenth St., and also to construct driveway over the street corner, provided he pays for the cost of lowering the manhole and relocating the power line pole located on said street corner. Seconded by Commissioner Bishop and carried. On motion of Commissioner Bishop~ seconded by Commissioner Williams and carted, the Commission next approved the purchase from B.J.Fan Ingen & Company, Inc. of 5 refunding Series A Bonds at a price of $665.00 each, and the purchase from Cohu & Torrey of 2 Refunding Series A Bonds at a price of $65?.50 each. Application next received from H.A.Mannlng and C.F.Benham to construct and operate a concrete block automobile service station at northeast corner of Thirteenth St. and Oleander Ave., and on motion duly adopte~, same was granted. Proposal ne×t submitted by F.M.English for installing a new roof on the City's dock building at a price of $325.00, and on motion of Commissioner Bishop, seconded by Commissioner Lesher and carried, same was authorized. Communication next read from Governor C~ldwell advising that he had directed the University of Florida to withdraw its request thru the Federal Works A~ency to remove any buildings from the Sanford Naval Air Station. On motion of Commissioner Bishop, seconded by Co~r~issioner Williams and carried, Commissione~ Lesher and Edward Higgins , ~anager of the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce, were next authorized to represent the City on trip to JacksorNil~, Atlanta and Washington to confer with offlcial~ of the War Assets. Corporation,Civil Aeronautics Admin- istration and Federal Works A~ency, relative to the City's application to use the buildings facilities and personal property at Sanford Naval Air Station for the Vocational School, and Hospital, the expenses in connection with the trip to be borne by Flight Training School the City.
