M., September 7, 1954, to receive the Tsx Assessment Roll for 19db, as prepared by the City Tax Assessor, am] to set as a Tax Equalization Board. plaints follows: Present: Commissioner Earl Hig~inbotham, Mayor " J.D. Knowles Police Captain Roy Tillis Meeting called to order by the Chairman. The Commission then proceeded to sit as a Tax Equalization Board to receive any cpm- or objections as to assessed valuations on the 1954 Tax Roll as prepared by the Tax and presented at this time. Thereupon the following complaints were presented, and action taken by the Board as Protest submitted from Sun Oil Comoany against the assessed value of $24,660.00 placed on their bulk plant property described as: Beg. at a point 82 ft E and 344 ft N of SE Cot. of Blk 1-N Tr 9, E. R. Traffords Nap, run N. 150 ft E 55 ft S. 35 ft E 275 ft S. ll5 ft. W. 330 ft. to point of beg. Also, against the assessed value of $10,420.00 placed on their personal property. After comparison with similar properties it was felt that both assessments were equit- able and no change was made by the Board. Protest submitted from Miss M. T. Stoudenmire against the assessed value of $4,220.00 placed on the W. 42 ft of Lot 5 Block 9, Tier 8, E. R. Trsfford's Map, which represented an increase of $1,070.00 in the assessment for an apartment added to dwelling and rebuilding garage located thereon. was felt After comp~?rison with assessed valuations of similar properties similarly located, that the assessment was well in line and no change was made by the Board. Protest submitted from Sears, Roebuck & Company against the assessed value of $4,180.00 placed on fixtures, equipment and merchandise in the thst the assessment is more than actual cost value. Protest submitted from International Business Machines Corporation against the assessed value of $h,710.00 placed on their personal oroperty. No change made by the Board because the assessment was considered equitable. Protest ~eceived from Derry McGill against assessed value of $3,320.00 placed on Lot 7, Georgia AcreS, claiming that the improvements located thereon cost only $1,900.00. After comparison with similar properties similarly located it was felt that the assess- ment was well in line and no change was made by the Board. Commiss~oncr Stemoer moved that the assessed valuation on personal property at the production and storage plant be reduced from $~1,850.00 to $29,250.00, a reduction of $2,600.00 in the personal property assessment. Seconded by Commissioner Cordell and carried. Protest received from J. V. Jones against assessed value of $6,340.00 placed Block l0 Tier l, E. R. Trafford's Nap, whlch represented an increase of $920.00 in the merit for concrete block addition to service station located thereon. After comparison with similar O~operties the Tax Assessor was praise the property and Board. on Lot 5, sssess- instructed to re-ap- review the assessment for further consideration of the Tax Equalization Letter of protest received from Henry NcLaulin, Jr., against the assessed value of $~,]60.00 placed on Lot 125, Sanford Heights, with request for opportunity to appear and voice his objections at the next regular meetln~ of She Commission. Request granted. There being no further complaints or objections registered, the Commission then ad- Journed as an Equalization Board until a later date, and thereupon proceeded to handle other business of the adjourned meeting. After discussion, Commissioner Krlder moved that the City contribute $50.00 toward such cost. Seconded by Commissioner Cordell and Carried.
