Mr. George A. Stine reoresentlng Stile Machine & Sunoly ~ompany ,
representing Eyerick Hardware Company next appeared before the Board and registered a orot, st
against awarding the bid to Hill Hardware Company at the meeting of January 26, 1942, for
furnishing 1000 feet of 2~ Eureka Mul~e'x Multiple Woven Fire Hose at a price of $1.10
net foot, which was a higher bid than the bids submitted, by them on other brands of
hose, stating that the fire hose bid upon by them is a guaranteed product and has~ the
same quality rating as the Eureka Multex Multiple Woven Hose.
Thereupon the Chairman advised Messrs. Betts and Brine that the City Commissioners
are not familiar with the different brsnd~ and qualities of fire hose, and that the
bid o~ Eureka Multex Multiole Woven Hose was accented on the recommendation Df Fire
Chief Cleveland.
Fire Chief Cleveland then explained that the Manhattan hose bid uoon by Emertck
Hardware Company and the Arno hose bid upon by Stine Machlne & Supply Comoany are both
double Jacket hose, whereas, the Jackets on the Eureka Multiple Woven hose are woven
together, stating that the double jacket hose creates more water oressure friction th~n the
multiple woven Jacket hose , and also that the double Jacket hose is bulky to handle and
has less loading caoacity than the multiple woven Jacket hose.
Thereupon after considerable discussion, Mrs Be~tS and'Mr Brine requested that their
orotest be waived, but stated that they would like to have an oppor~unitY to substantiate
the comparison of %he friction and loading capacity of ~he two tyoes of hose bid upon,

that the property was not assessable by the City for the taxes for 1938 because
title on January 1. ~938 was vested in ~he Trustees of the Local Post of the Spanish
American W,r Veterans
Thereupon after further discussion, City Attorney Wilson stated that he had lnvestigat
the matter and was of the o~inton that the property was assessable for taxes, but so far as
