031445 MINUTES CiTY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, March at 1:30 P N '19. 45 123 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned regular session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 1:30 O'clock P.M. March 14,1945. Present: Commissioner Edward Hlgglns, Mayor. " George D. Bishoo " H.James Gut City Clef r and Chief of Police R.G.Williams Absent: Commissioner M.J.Lodge. Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Mr. G.R.Barnes, Supt. and Mr Melvin Oakes, Manager of the War Food Administration's local Farm Labor'Suoply Center, next appeared before the Board with reference to the case of Benjamin C.Walklns, colored, Cases No. 34197/99, convicted in the Municipal Court under date of March 12,1945 for disorderly conduct, vagrancy, and resisting arrest and sentenced to Day $10. O0 and cost on each of the first two charges and $100.OO and cost on the third; advising that the defendant is a laborer from said labor camp, who migrated ..from the BaPmma Islands, and requested that the City refund the $1OO.OO fine paid for resislting arrest because he is being turned over to the Immigration Officers for deportation back home on account of the aforesaid charges. Thereupon after considerable discussion, Commissioner Hill moved that the Clerk be authorized to refund the $1OO.OO fine paid by Benjamin C. Walklns to the Munlci~al Court under date of March 12,1945, Case No. 3~199, convicted for res~stlng arrest, provided he is delivered to the Immigration Officers for deportation. ~econded by Commissioner Gut and carried. The Clerk next advised tDat Policeman Wade H.Raulerson, who was injured in an accident on February 1,1945, had elected to recover damages against Clarence C.Welsh, the ~nird party involved in the accident Instead of accepting compensation under the Workmen's Compensation Act. Thereupon, on motion duly carried, the Clerk 'was authorized to advance Mr. Raulerson~ sufficient funds to ~oay his hosoltallzatlon and medical fees; said funds to be reimbursed to the City from any amounts recovered from the third party involved in the accident. Pursuant to the orovtslons of Section lb of Ordl. nance No. 362, passed and adopted by the City Commission under date of December~26,19~4, establishing a Zoning Plan within the City of Sanford, and on motion of Commissioner Hill, seconded by Commissioner Bishop and carried, the Commission next appointed the following as the members of the Zong~ng Board of Adjustment for a term of three years each.
