CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, O~tob
The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Fl&rida, met in Special Called
Session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 2:00 o'clock P.M.
October 18,1945.
Present: Commissioner Edward Higgins, Nayor.

Absent: Commissioner W.C.Hill
Meeting called to order by the Chairman who announced that the meeting had
been called for the purpose of considering a request of the Florida State Theatres,Inc.
to use the balcony in the Princess Theatre at 115 W. First Street for negro Patronage.
Thereupon after considerable discussion with Mr. Harvey, local manager of the
Ritz and Princess Theatres, it was the opinion of the Board that it would be hazardous
to allow colored people to attend the Princess Theatre because of it being situated
in the main business Aection of the city, and on motion duly adopted, the CommissiOn
~directed that a request be made to the Florida State Theatres, Inc., not to open the
balcony in the Princess Theatre for negro patronage, because of racial red. sons.
There being no further busimess the meeting adjourned.
