M. January 23, 1952. Present: Commissioner W. H. Stemper, Mayor " Andrew Carraway " Randall Chase " John L. Kadet City Attorney A. Edwin Shlnholser Acting City Manager John M. Gillon City Clerk H. N. Bayer Absent: Commieslone John D. Ivey Meeting coiled to order by the Chairman. Consideration next given to recommendation of City Physician, Municipal Judge, and Chief of Police, that Harry Michael Hen!on be released from serving sentence in City Jail because of his physical conditioN. Mr. Hanlon having been sentenced in Municipal Court on December 13, 1951, Case No. 45742, for o~eratlng a motor vehicle while under influence of in- toxicating liquors, and assessed fine of $200.00 and cost or serve 90 days in Jail. Thereupon Commissioner Carraway moved the acceptance of recommendations of City Physician, Municipal Judge and Chief of Police, orovided hi~ drivers ~lcense is revoked. Seconded by Commissioner Chase and carried. The requeet of Phillips Properties for the City to furnish clay for stabilizing the streets in Wynnewood Subdivision was next denied because of estimate of only 8,000 cubic yards of clay left in City's pit, of which most of i~ has been allocated for City's use. The following bids next received for furnishing all labor and materials to construct tourist building in Fort Mellon Park, in accordance with plans and specifications furnished by Elton J. Moughton, Architect: Bralnard & Nelson, P. M. Campbell T. S. Crawley Dawson Construction F. A. Dyson, Sanford Jarco Corporation, 6rlando Ban ford H Co., Inc. Sanford Thereupon Commissioner Carraway moved that the $10,768.00 10,500.00 10,035.00 9,227.00 9,511.00 11,350.00 contract be awarded to the lowest bidder, that of Dawson Construction Company, Inc., in amount of $9,227.00. Seconded by Commissioner Kadet and carried. On motion duly adopted the reouest of New York Giants Basebsl~ Club for load of clay from City's oit for baseball diamonds in Melbourne was next authorized. On recommendation of Chief of Police, and on motion of Com~nissioner Csrraway, seconded by Commissioner Chase and carried, the Commission next authorized purchase of new motor for 1950 Chevrolet Sedan used by Police Department, at price of $278.00. M. 19 52 this time, and on advice of Architect Moughton that Mr. Stafford had devoted considerable time in furnishing deta for the specifications, Commissioner Csrraway moved the acceptance of bid of Stafford Electric Company for re-wiring only at price of ~70.00. Seconded by Commlsdloner Chase and carried. Mayor Stemoer next ~eported that the State Road Department would not consent to elimi- nating the proposed cloverleaf intersection at French Avenue, and Road No. 15 in connection with the proposed widening of French Avenue, which would have eliminated ~e cost of securing the Anchor Inn property. He then recommended that since the aforesaid property would have to be acquired for the intersection and the building removed, that the City secure purchase option on the two lots at northeast corner of French Avenue, and 26th Street for the purpose of mov- ing the Anchor building thereon, which would be acceptable to the owner, advising that such actlon would affect considerable savings in acquiring the property. Also advising that the two lots could be purchased from Harry Carrlngton at price of $1,000.00 each. Thereupon after discussion it was felt that it would be for the best interest of the City to secure the two lots for the aforesaid purposes, and Commissioner Carrawsy moved that the Mayor be authorized to attempt to secure an option at the lowest firgure possible and for the longest length of time possible from Harry Carrington to purchase them at price of $2,000.00. Seconded by Commissioner Chase and carried. The Nayor next reported that Volie Williams, Jr., had volunteered, without any eost to the City to contact the owners of the 57 oarchels of property that will have to be acouired for widening French Avenue, to find out the smount of the cost of such rights-of-way. Thereupon Commls~loner Chase moved that Volle Williams, Jr., be authorized, without any cost or obligation to the City, to contact the owners of ~e aforesaid property to ascertain the cost that may be involved in acquiring such properties for the additional rights-of-way f~ widening Frmnch Avenue.
