H40750 889 ,, The City Commission of the City of ~ar~rd, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 8:00 o'clock P. M. May 12, 1952. Present: Commissioner W. Williams Absent: Commissioner Andrew Carraway John D. Ivey Meeting called to order by the Chairman. Monthly reports of streets, sanitation, health, water, fire, police, and library departments for month of April 1952, submitted and examined. On motion duly adopted, oum-ent invoices and payrolls for month of April 1952, as evidenced by Voucher Nos. 7715 th~u 7850, submitted and examined, and payment authorized. Mrs. Bullock, wife of castor of Assembly of God Church at corner of Laurel Avenue, and 12th Street next appeared and requested permission to park their house trailer on the Church property which they will occupy for living quarters. She was advised of City Ordinance prohibiting parking of house trailers except in approved trailer parks, with t~ exception of temporary permit for period of three weeks maximum. Messrs. G. W. Spencer, W. A. Morrison, Roy Holler, D. C. Cordell and Vernol Carroll, members of the Stadium Committee, next appeared with reference to the followingmatters referred to them for recommendations: 1. Request of colored Sanford Giants Baseball Club to use t~ old baseball park. Request of colored Sanfoz~d Giants Baseball Club to use the new stadium one night each week when the Seminole County Baseball Association is not using it. 3. Matter of renovattngthe old baseball park facilities. After considerable discussion the Stadium Committee submitted the following rec- ommendations: 1. That no games be played in old stadium cc~icting with Seminole Blues' home games because it would detract attendance from Blues and would create un- necessary traffic hazard and require extra policing at expense to City. 2. That.the old grandstand be razed except concrete base, toilets and dressing rooms. Fence,grounds and guard screen to be maintained. 3. Parking be prohibited during any athletic contest played in either ball park, on Celery Avenue from two blocks west of Nellonville Avenue, and east to City limits and south to railroad. Right to use either park subject to revocation and denial to any group who unduly distrubs the peace and quietude of the neighborhood. 5.That the ordinance be promptly amended taxing admission to stadium, to 105 on 50¢ or more adm~slon, and .055 on admission there under. 6. That the City follow the terms of agree~nt with SeminoleCounty baseball Association relative to use of new stadium for balance of season, and that there be no waivure of any of the requirements. Thereupon Commissioner Chase moved that an ordinance be prepared to amend the stadium admission tax ordinance in accordance with r ecommenSations of the 8radium Committee. Seconded by Commissioner Kadet and carried. Action was ~eferred on the other recommendations of Stadium Committee, pending consider- ation of full Board of Commission. Mack Cleveland, Jr., Attorney, next submitted application of J. A. Gramling, colored disabled veteran of World War I, for permit to operate a taxi-cab, which will be operated by 390 ~-4o?~0 MINUTES City Commission, Sanford, Florida,. M~? l~ ~ ~ P~ M: .19 52 Request next received from a Mr. Cockman to rent the vacant lot at southeast corner of French Avenue and 9th Street for the purpose of operating a watermel]on stand, and in view of fact this lot is owned by the County, the City Manager was directed to contact Mr. Cockman relative to renting the City owned property at southwest corner of 9th Street and French Avenue and operate the stand on 9th Street side.
