050157-Special Session230 MINUTES City Commission, Sanford, Florida, May i.. at. 7: 30 P~ 19. 57 The airy Commission of the City of Banford, Florida, met in special session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 o'clock P. N' Tatum, Jr. Absent: Commissioner Earl Higglnbotham Meeting called to order by the Chairman. John Krider, Manager of Chamber of Commerce, appeared relative to securing a site for an industry desiring to locate a tool and die plant in Central Florida ard within 20 miles of Orlando. He advised that the industry preferred a site of approximately 20 acres, located on a highway, and that t hey proposed to erect a plant building immediately with 40,000 square feet of floor area, and employ at least 60 people. Mr. Krider further advised that the Chamber of Commerce had not been able to find a suitable .site available to offer this industry, and requested the Commission to consider offering the north portion of the municipal well field property on Highway 17-92 for this purpose, stating that t_he property in question consisted of only about 10 acres, but it might be acceptable to the aforesaid industry, due to its location. After discussion, in which Commissioner Scott stated he would not be in favor of releasing the municipal well field for industrial purposes, since it is located outside the corporate limits,, the Commission deferred action. Mayor Gatchel next reported on trip to Tallahassee in an endeavor to secure the passage of the proposed bill to levy an additional %~ tax on gasoline, which would be returned to municipalities, advising t.hat the opposition among the Committee members were almost un- animous, and that the bill was voted out. Harold A. Scott of the engineering firm of Reynolds, Smith and Hills, next appeared and submitted a proposed Engineering Service Agreement for making the location and feasibility report on the proposed docks and terminal project, at fee as follows: $30,000.00 for complete report, and ~25,000.00 if the site explorations are excluded. After a ~lengthy discussion, the proposal was taken under advisement. A proposed Engineering Service Agreement was next submitted from the engineering firm of Smith and Gillespie for making the location and feasibility report on the docks and termi- nal at fee of $7,500.00, and same was also taken under advisement.
