Request next subm~ted from R. A. Newman, Jr. d/b/a Hill Implement Company, 216 Oak Ave. to abandon and vacate the North 2 feet of Third Street, beginning at the Southeast corner of Lot 5, Block 4, Tier 5, of E. R. Traffords Map and e~tending westwardly 107 Feet. r- After discussion, moved by Commissioner, seconded by Commissioner Warner and carried to hold a Public Hearing on April 13, 1959, to consider same. Application ne~t submitted by Food Fair Company, 2474 Park Avenue, for license to sell beer and wine for consumption off premises, and on motion of Commissioner Warner, seconded by Commissioner Higginbotham and carried, the Commission authorized same on recommendation of Police Chief Williams. '" H. H. Hurston, 709 E 6th ,Street, next appeared to request approval of application for license to operate'a taxi cab, using a 1957 model vehicle, and after consideraticn and on motion of Commissioner Higginbot'ham, secom ed by Commlssl(mer Baker and carried, same was ",.... approved. After considerable discussion, moved by Commissioner Higginbotham authorizing the Police Department to make an annual inspection of allttaxi cabs operated in the City, and an additional inspection at any time the Police Department deems it necessary, in the interest of safety and, welfare of the public. Seconded by CommlssionerWarner and carried. Commissioner Higginb otham introduced Resolution No. 921, and after being read in full moved its passage and adoption. Seconded by Commissioner Warner and:earried by a unanimous vote of the Commission. Res~lution No. 921 being in words and figures as follows: A RESOLUTION 0]' 1'HE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, OPPOSING PROPOSED INCREASE IN GASOLINE TAX AS RECOMMENDED BY THE STATE ROAD DEPARTMENT, AND REQUESTING THE SEMINOLE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO OPPOSE SAME. WHEREAS, It has come t~he attention of the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, that there will be introduced in the 1959 session of the Florida Legislature to in- ,.... crease the tax on retail ffiles of gasoline, and WHEREAS, The City Commission feels that the plan as proposed creates an additional hardship on already overtaxed motorists, and that said plan is c ample tely impracti cable and unworkable, and WHEREAS, the City Commission feels that said plan if adopted will further concentrate ",.... unnecessary power in state government as compared to..local government operations, contrary to t he ultimate benefit and well being of thepublic~ NOW THEREFORE, BE Irr RESOLVED, by the City Commi-ssion of the City of Sanford, Florida, . that the City Commission hereby opposes any increase in retail gasoline taxes as now proposed, and requests the legislative "delegation of Seminole County' to so opoose the same in the 1959 session of the legislature. City' of Sanford, Florida. appeared pertaining to a petition presented at a prior meeting requesting the paving of Willow Avenue from 4th Street to 7th Street. Mr. Orseno was informed that it was still the practice of the City to pay 1/3 the cost of t he paving and t he abutting property owners 1-Jould bear the other 2/3 costs, and that such paving would be done whenever the abutting property o\'lmers had deposited with the City their pro rata share of 2/3 of the costs. On motion of Commissioner 'tIlarner, seconded by Commissioner Brown and carried, the Commlssi.on authorized the first payment in the sum of $3,000.00 on the'contract of $7,500.00 for City Planner George W. Simons, said payment to be made through the Florida / Develapment Commission. After consideration, moved by Commissioner Brown,' secmded by Commissioner Warner and carried, authorizing the purchase of 150 additional new water meters. On motion of Commissioner Higginbotham, seconded by Commissioner Warner and carried, minutes of regular meeting of January 12, and January 26, and special meeting of February 6, and regular DE eting of February 9, 19 59, next approved. On motion of Commissioner Higginbotham, secQ~ded by Commissioner Warner and carried, current invoices and payrolls next approved, as evidenced by General Fund Sanford Atlantic National Bank Vouchers Nos. 4176 thru 4303, General Fund Florida State Bank Vouchers Nos. 2274 thru 2324, and Water & Sewer Sanford Atlantic National Bank Voucners Nos. 308 thru 310. Request next submitted "from Wm. Kirk, owner of bu'lding at 104 E Commercial Avenue to abandon and vacate the Westerly 3 feet and 4 inches of that 104 feet of the north-south / alley adjacent to Lot 2, Lake View Park, in order to cons truct a Public sidewalk. After discussion, moved by Commissioner Baker, secom. ed by Commissi':mer Brown and carried to h old a Public Hearing on April 13, 1959, to co ns ide r same.
