The City Commission of the City of Sanford, FLorida, met in special session at the
City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 7:00 o'clock, P. M. on February 4, 1961.

"Sonny''~ J. Powell, President of Seminole County Chamber of Commerce, next appeared
and said that it was a good resolution and in line with the thoughts of the Chamber of Commerce.
C. L. McMullen, Legislative Representative of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, next
aopeared in support of adoption a resolution of this type.
Robert Cole next stated that a monup~y would be wrong in any area or community and
he approved the resolution.

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman.
The Chairman announced that the purpose of the meeting was to consider a Resolution
to the Interstate Commerce Commission from the City Commission regarding the proposed merger of
the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.
Commissioner McDonald introduced Resolution No. 939, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA OPPOSING TttE ATLANTIC COAST LINE
RAILROAD AND SEABOARD AIR LINE RAILROAD MERGER .~S
PRESENTLY PROPOSED
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of SanfoPd, Florida always attempts to take
a position in the best interests of the majority of its citizens,
AND WHEREAS, the present railroad, lines from JacksonVille to Tampa going through
Sanford are presently considered a main line railroad of the ~tlantic cbast Line Railroad,
AND WHEREAS, there is evidence in the form of a proposed map prepared in the office
of the Chief Engineer of the Seaboard~Air Line Railroad, dated January 12, 1960, which desig-
nates said railroad line from Jacksonville to Tampa as a secondary line,
AND ~tEREAS, good railroad facilities and serviceS with a designation of a main line
are essential to the stability and growth of our community,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Sanford go on record in opposition
proposed
to the/merger of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and Atlantic Coast Line Railroad rail lines,
UNLESS WE ARE ASSURED that the City of Sanford will have at least as good or better services
and. facilities than it now has, and keep the designation of the line from Jacksonville to Tampa
as a main line, or that the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad be required to sell its line from
Jacksonville to Tampa to a competing railroad that will assure us of at least as good or better
services and facilities than we now have and designate the Jacksonville to Tampa line as a main
line.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread, upon the minutes of
the City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, and that the original thereof be delivered
to the Interstate Commerce Commission.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of February, A. D. 1961.
