M. 19 6q SUPPLY COMPANY ,!.r . . , ~ :; ,,, The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in special session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at lO:O0 A. M. on August 29, 1969. Present: Commissioner Lee P. Moore, Mayor " James H. Crapps " Earl Higginbotham " W. Vincent Roberts " A.L. Wilson City Attorney W. C. Hutchison, Jr. City Manager W.'E. Knowles City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr. Police Chief Ben E. Butler The meeting was called to order by the Chairman. Mayor Moore reported on the meeting held in Atlanta on Thursday with representative~ of an insurance firm and Mr. Krider, Mr. Rathel and himself. This firm indicated a sincere interest in obtaining fire'acres in the Industrial Park on Highway 17-92 and French Avenue, and will hire approximately 175 to 200 persons with a minimum annual payroll of $800,000.00. Further, that this company was fascinated with the availability of temporary accommodations at the airport to utilize during the planning and construction period. The company's Distric~ Vice-president had stated that this Site would be his recommendation to the home office at a meeting to be held in October. Mr. Rathel and Mr. Krider affirmed the Mayor's report and added that the company had visited three sites, two fronting on the lake and one on I-4 highway, and that a survey team would be in Sanford in the next two weeks to review the facilities. Varoius members of the Zoo Committee, merchants and interested residents voiced appreciation of the meeting and efforts to locate the insurance company in Sanford and expressed the desire to continue to try to locate a site on which to move the zoo. Commissioner Higginbotham stated that if the Commission would eliminate the Industrial Park as a consideration for the zoo location and stop kidding the people that he would support a motion to this effect. Commissioner Wilson moved to eliminate the Industrial Park property as a considera- tion for a site on which to move the zoo. Seconded by Commissioner Crapps and carried.
