M. 1985 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Special Session in the City Manager's Conference Room in the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 4:00 o'clock P. M. on April 5, 1985. Present: Absent: Others Present: Mayor-Commissioner Bettye D. Smith Commissioner John Y. Mercer Commissioner Milton E. Smith Commissioner David T. Farr Commissioner Bob Thomas City Manager W. E. Knowles City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr. City Attorney William L. Colbert City Manager Appointee Frank A. Faison Assistant City Manager Steven D. Harriett The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, who announced that the purpose of the meeting was to accept the retirement of Police Chief Ben E. Butler, effective April 30, 1985, after 32 years of service, and to consider the appointment of an Acting Chief of Police. The Commission accepted Chief Butler's request for retirement. Commissioner Smith moved to appoint Steven D. Harriett, Assistant City Manager, to the position of Ac~ing Chief of Police, effective May 1, 1985, and to report to the Police Department on April 15, 1985 to work with Chief Butler, and request the Civil Service Board to provide an approved list of applicants for the permanent position of Chief of Police. Seconded by Commissioner Farr and carried. Steve Harriett expressed his appreciation for the confidence of the Commission and for the apointment.
