041585-Workshop Session MINUTES City Commission, Sanford, Florida April 15 at 4:00 P. M. 1985 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Workshop Session in the City Manager's Conference Room in the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 4:00 o'clock P. M. on April 15, 1985. Present: Mayor-Commissioner Bettye D. Smith Commissioner John Y. Mercer Commissioner Milton E. Smith Commissioner David T. Farr Commissioner Bob Thomas Acting City Manager James R. Jernigan City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr. Absent: City Attorney William L. Colbert City Manager W. E. Knowles The meeting was called to order by the Chairman. Sally Dykes, Valerie Barber, and Polly Stevens appeared to represent the Federation of Senior Citizens of Seminole County, to request the Commission to file a non- binding Letter of Intent with the proper agency for funds under the Federal Older Americans Act to plan for space, provide for space, designate a program, or to have a center, for Senior Citizens' needs, that also may be used for compatible youth activities. Ms. Dykes stated she was Project Director for Seminole County, and that their activities included Meals on Wheels, of which 50% of the program was for Sanford Area residents; Congregate Meals served at seven locations, two of which are in Sanford; and also a van for transportation, which spends 50% of its time in the Sanford Area. The Commission authorized this request to be considered at the next regular Commission Meeting. Elaine Wilson, Winter Springs, and Vernon Drumheller, Administrator, appeared to explain the Wil-Win program, a project to train handicapped perso.ns for the job field, located at 406 Sanford Avenue. Ms. Wilson stated this program trained together the mentally, physically and socially handicapped individuals, paid a the minimum wage, and further requested help to locate interested persons to serve on their Board of Directors. Dr. Velma Williams appeared to submit a letter from ~-ee~ee~e~-e~e~r Francis Chairman of a Task Force of concerned citizsns, Oliver, /pertaining to the appointment of a Chief of Police, and expressed satisfaction with qualifications and appointment of Steve Harriett as Acting Chief of Police. Consideration next given to the appointment of a Bi-racial Committee, and the Commission authorized to consider same at the next regular meeting. The Commission requested that copies be included with the Agenda, of all ordinances to be placed on first reading. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. A Y O R ATTEST: js
