120788-Special SessionMINUTES City Commission, Sanford, Florida December 7, 507 19 88 The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in Special Session in the City Commission Room at the December 7, 1988. City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 12:00 Noon on Present: Mayor-Commissioner Bettye D. Smith Commissioner John Y. Mercer Commissioner Whitey Eckstein Commissioner Robert B. Thomas City Attorney William L. Colbert City Manager Frank A. Faison City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr. Absent: Commissioner A. A. McClanahan The Chairman called the meeting into session to canvass the returns of the Municipal General Election held on December 6, 1988, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and two Commissioners. The Certificate of Results for the General Election held on December 6, 1988 was received by the City Clerk and the City Commission and recorded as follows: For Mayor-Commissioner John G. Morris Bettye D. smith For District No. 1 Lon Howell Jay Malone James Sweeting, III For District No. 3 Storm L. Richards Robert B. Thomas Poll ~Absentee Total Returns Returns ~ Votes 1,092 38 1,130 1,704 38 1,742 189 15 204 178 3 18'1 260 17 277 128 2 130 464 1 465 Commissioner Mercer moved that the returns of the election held on December 6, 1988 be accepted and the absentee ballots be approved as recorded. Commissioner Thomas and carried by the vote of the Commission as follows: Commissioner Mercer Yea Co~missioner Eck£tein Yea Commissioner Thomas Yea Mayor Smith Yea Seconded Commissioner Mercer moved to authorize payment in amount of $ 60.00 to Inspectors and $ 70.00 to the Clerks, for work in the December 6, 1988 General Election. Seconded by Conm,issioner Eckstein and carried by the vote of Lhe Commission as follows: Commissionez Mercer Yea Commissioner Eckstein Yea Co~aissioner Thomas Yea Mayor Smith Yea The Commission authorized a Municipal Run-off General Election to be held on December 20, 1988 for the election of a Co?missionar as follows: District No. 1 Lon Howell James Sweeting, III and to authorize the Mayor and City clerk to execute the Election Proclamation for the same. 508 MINUTES City Commission, Sanford, Florida December 7, 19 88 The Commission discussed proposals to redefine district boundaries, change the District 4 voting location, cha~ge the date of municipal elections, decrease the qualifying period, and increase the time between the end of the qualifying period and the election date, and to authorize the City Attorney to initiate the proper procedures to accomplish same. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
