The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in Organ/zational Meeting Tuesday, January 7, 1997 at 7:00
o'clock P.M. in the City Commission Room, City Hail, 300 North ParkAvenue, Sanford, Florida.

The Chairman called the meeting to order.
Old Business.
There being no further business to be transacted by the out-going board, Mayor Smith adjourned the meeting sine die.
Reconvene.
Mayor Smith reconvened the meting for the purpose of organization.
Oaths, of Office.
City Clerk Janet Dougherty administered the Oaths of Office to Mayor-Elect Larry A. Dale, Commissioner-Elect Brady
Lessard, District 1, ~and Commissioner-Elect Velma H. Williams, District 2, and each was seated.
Adoption of Resolution No. 1738. After being read in its entirety, Commissioner Eckstein moved to adopt Resolution No. 1738,
entitled:

Mayor Dale proposed that the City Manager conduct a study to determine what it would take to renovate an office upstairs
in the administrative area for the Mayor and Commissioners to use, and to hire an administrative assistance to answer phones, handle
correspondence, and assist the Commission in the area of economic development as needed.

Commissioner Lyons reported that there is currently an office being utilized by the Commission, and the City has

Commissioner Williams concurred with Mayor Dale's proposal.

The City Manager reported that there are no unfilled administrative vacancies or a current position that could be switche;
over on a full time basis at this time, that other employees within the City Manager and City Clerk's offices have provided the
and Commission with Staff support up to this time. Further, the cost of office renovation and suitable accommodations, and
administrative assistant/secretarial position would require use of General Fund Reserves because there is not sufficient funds to
th/s type of expenditure within the City Managers Contingency Fund.
After discussion, and at the suggestion of Commissioner Eckstein, the Commission concurred to further discuss this issue
at the January 13, 1997, Work Session.
Work Sessions for Staff presentations and goal setting.
After discussion, thc Commission concurred to start the January 13, 1997, Work Session at 4:00 o'clock P.M. instead
the regularly schedule time of 5:00 o'clock P.M. Also, on recommendation of the City Manager, the Commission concurred to hold a
Special Work Session on February 3, 1997 at 4:00 o'clock P.M. for Staff briefings and Depamnent Head presentations.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
