371 I I / I I ORDINANCE NO. 371 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, 1UKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR FEROCIOUS OR VICIOUS DOGS TO ROAM on RUN AT LiffiGi1: IN THE CITY OF SJ.6.NFORD, FLORIDA, 1\11) REC2UIRING THE SAME TO BE CONFINED AS IN THIS ORDINANCE PRESCRIBED AND PROVIDING FOR Tl~IR DESTRUCTION IN NOT CONFINED AS IN THIS ORDINANCE REQ,UIRED .A}..'TI PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR A VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF BY 'rHE OVffiER OR KEEPER OF SUCH DOGS. BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CI TY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That it shall be unlawful for any ferocious or vicious dog to roam or run at large within the corporate limits of the City of Sanford, Florida. SECTION 2: A vicious dog Within the meaning of this ordinance shall be one that is of a ferocious or vicious nature or snaps at people or has bitten people or attempted to bite pe ople . SECTION 3: A ferocious or vicious dog at large within the meaning of this ordinance shall be one that roams the streets, avenues, alleys or public places of the City of Sanford, Florida, without being under leash by some person or persons in charge of such dog and muzzled by a muzzle sufficiently strong to prevent such dog from biting or attempting to bite people. SECTION 4: That any ferocious or vicious dog as defined in Section 2 hereof shall, while on the premises of the owner or keeper thereof, be securely confined by a chain,wire or rope and. not allowed to be loose on said owner's or keeper's premises. SECTION 5: That upon affidavit made by any person or persons that a ferocious and vicious dog is roaming or running at large on the pUblic streets, avenues, alleys or public places of the City of Sanford, Florida, and presented to the Municipal Judge of the City of Sanford, Florida, said Municipal Judge shall immediately cause a police officer to serve written notice upon the owner or keeper of such dog to confine such dog immediately as herein prescribed and if such owner or keeper cannot be located within l.\.e hours after such notice is issued, then it shall be the duty of any police officer to kill said dog, and if such owner or keeper shall permit such fero- cious or vicious dog to continue to roam or run at large after service of such notice, then it shall be the duty of any police officer to kill such dog. SECTION 5: Any person or persons violating the pro- visions of this ordinance shall be punished upon cOnviction in the Municipal Court by a fine not exceeding ~200.00 or by imprisonment not exceeding ninety days. SECTION 7: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. .. SECTION 8: That this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. March, PASSED and ADOPTED this 12th day of ~~, 1945.
