AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
REQ,UIRING OWNERS OR KEEPERS OF DOGS IN THE
CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA, TO HAVE TEE SAME
VACCINATED AGAINST RABIES BY A LICENSED VET-
ERINARIAN BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF MAY
OF EACH YEAR, AND PROVIDING FOR THE DESTRUC-
TION OF DOGS NOT SO VACCINATED .AlIi1) PROVIDING
A PEnALTY FOR 'rIlE VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS
HEREOF.
BE I T ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: ~hat owners and keepers of dogs in the
City of Sanford, Florida, are hereby required to have said dogs
vaooinated against rabies by a licensed veterina~ian before
the first. day of
MAY
of eaoh year.
SECTION 2: That upon vaccination of a dog as required
by Section 1 hereof, the veterinarian so vacoinating said dog
shall furnish the owner or keeper thereof a oertificate showing
the date of such vaccination and also a tag which shall be con-
tinually worn by said dog on a collar or harness for the following
year.
SECTION 3: That upon any police officer finding a
dog without the tag provided for in Section 2 hereof, such officer
shall use reasonable diligence to notify the owner or keeper of
such dog to have it vaccinated within forty-eight (48) hours after
notice and upon his or her failure so to do, said dog shall be
killed by any police officer, and if such police officer is un-
able to notify the owner or keeper after reasonable diligence so
to do, he shall kill such dog.
SECTION 4: That any owner or keeper of a dog who shall
fail to have said dog vaccinated as required in Section 1
hereof, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
thereof in the Municipal Court shall be punished by a fine not
exceeding $200.00 or by imprisonment not exceeding ninety days
or by both fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the
Municipal Judge.
SECTION 5: ~hat all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 6: That this ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
