The meeting was called to order at 8:15 P.M. with three members present.
Mr. Whelchel moved to approve the Minutes of the March 25, 1980 meeting.
Mr. Hunt seconded. Motion carried.
The next item for discussion was the selection of Counsel. Mr. Cowley
read letters received from Leo P. Rock and from Jim Brown, both expressing
a desire to serve as Counsel for the Commission and both amicable to the
other one. Mr. Whelchel moved to retain Jim Brown as Counsel. Mr. Hunt
seconded. Motion carried.
A certified copy of the amended Rules & Regulations which had been posted
in City Hall for 21 days was presented to the Commission. Mr. Hunt moved
to adopt the amended Rules & Regulations. Mr. Whelchel seconded. Motion
carried. The Secretary was instructed to send the Rules & Regulations, along
with a cover letter, to Tallahassee on April 9, 1980.
Discussion on the agreement between the Commission and the firm of Rock & Brown
revealed the agreement expired on Sept. 30, 1979 and due to an oversight, had
not been renewed to carry over into the new fiscal year. It was agreed that
an agreement will need to be presented to cover the period from Oct. 1, 1980
thru April 7, 1980. It was also requested an agreement from Jim Brown from
the firm, Richeson & Brown be submitted for April 8, 1980 through Sept. 30,
1980.
The Chairman said he would send a letter to Mr. Leo P. Rock, thanking the firm
of Rock & Brown for their past service and for the offer to continue to serve
as counsel, and inform them that Brown & Richeson had been chosen to represent
the Commission for the new year.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned, with the next meeting
to be scheduled as needed.
