The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Work Session on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 5:00 PM, in the Railroad Depot Room, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 300 North Park Avenue, Sanford, Florida. Present: Mayor Linda Kuhn Vice Mayor Velma Williams Commissioner Randy Jones Commissioner Art Woodruff City Manager Robert (Sherman) Yehl City Clerk Janet R. Dougherty Administrative Specialist Pat Lee Absent: Commissioner Jack T. Bridges Mayor Kuhn called the Work Session to order at 5:00 PM. Note: Agenda items taken out of order to allow time for tbe Florida Collegiate Summer League representatives to arrive. 2) Request to install a Video Display Sign at 1160 Rinehart Road - discussion. [Commission Memo 08-348] Russ Gibson, Director of Planning & Development, introduced Tom Ball, Realtor. Mr. Ball stated David Maus approached him about the possibility of the City considering a sign of this nature that would be shared jointly between the City and David Maus Toyota, having visibility from both 1-4 and SR 417. PowerPoint slides of the proposed video display sign were shown displaying special events, directions, etc. Mr. Yehl stated that the sign ordinance does not recognize the 1-4 corridor and that signs would be much different along 1-4 and suggested having the Planning Department look at what would be appropriate along 1-4 to see if staff could come up with some regulations. After discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission to take it back to staff for recommendations and for the City Attorney to review it also. 1) Presentation by Florida Collegiate Summer League re: 2008 Sanford River Rats Season [Commission Memo 08- 349] Mike Kirby, Leisure Services Director, introduced Sara Whiting, President and CEO of the Florida Collegiate Summer League, Rob Sitz and Cody Houseknecht.. Ms. Whiting distributed copies of the Florida Collegiate Summer League 2008 Yearbook and gave a PowerPoint presentation of the past Summer League at Historic Sanford Municipal Stadium. Ms. Whiting presented Mayor Linda Kuhn with a Hacksaw Jim Duggan poster and thanked the City, Mike Kirby and Lisa Jones for all their support. 3) Agenda Items - additional information and/or questions. Mr. Yehl noted that Item 7. G, 3021 Highway 17-92, has been withdrawn as they are in negotiations with the new property owner; and additional information on Item 7.A.was distributed; and a revision to Item 9.B (the wrong citation was included). Commissioner Woodruff felt it would be appropriate to handle Item 9.B at the same time as the City Manager's evaluation and that he would recommend tabling it at the regular meeting tonight. 4) End tbe meeting.
