Summary
Introduction
I am here today requesting the use of a red, white and blue striped background for my canopy store
front. The actual wording on the canopy will only cover the allowed 25% in accordance to the allowed
signage. Traditionally around the world and brought to this country the red (representing blood) and
white (representing bandages) was presented by barbershops. The first barbers in this country were the
surgeons and dentists as well as shaving and cutting hair. The red, white and blue began during the
birth of the United States when the blue was added to show support and patronage of our country's
colors red, white and blue and even today is presented by both beauty and barber shops across the
country. The red, white and blue is not a registered trademark or copyrighted in the United States,
State of Florida, directly or indirectly making any specific legal representation to barbershops. It is our
request to you as a background for our canopy signage.

Sanford Barbershop History
The history of the Sanford Barber Shop goes back to 1934 when Thomas Barber Shop opened on the
west side of Palmetto Street across the street from the Original Fire Station where it remained for 40
years. A.L. Thomas was a Barber and the original owner. He then moved Thomas Barber Shop across
the street next to the Fire Station at 105 Palmetto Street where it remained for another 35 years. During
that time David Dreifuerst bought the shop from A.L. and renames it Dave's Barber Shop. Dave moved
the shop to 114 E 2n Street in 2011 and in 2014 Dave sold it to me, James Moriarty and now we have
moved to 108 E. I` Street.
This Barber Shop has been in continuous operation since 1934 in downtown Sanford, 81 years.
Summary
At the new location on 1 s` Street I plan to make it to the 100 years mark, a centennial business in
downtown Sanford. Barbershops, and the red, white and blue been around a lot longer than us and
have been a part of every town and city in America throughout our history.
