The purpose of this notice is to serve as a contingency in the event of such attendance, but is not intended to encourage attendance or permit participation if attendance occurs. CITY COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 14, 2016 SPECIAL JOINT WORK SESSION The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Special Joint Work Session with the Seminole County School Board on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 1:00 PM, in the School Board Meeting Room, Educational Support Center, 400 E. Lake Mary Boulevard, Sanford, Florida. City Commission Present: Mayor Jeff Triplett Vice Mayor Randy Jones Commissioner Patty Mahany City Manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr. Deputy City Manager Tom George Project Planner Chris Smith Recreation Director Mike Kirby Deputy City Clerk Traci Houchin Absent: Commissioner Velma Williams Seminole County School Board Present: Tina Calderon, Chairman Amy Lockhart, Vice Chairman Karen Almond Dede Schaffner Dr. Walt Griffin, Superintendent Joe Ranaldi, Executive Director of Operations Bill Kelly, Executive Director of Finance Jill Mahramus, Clerk Absent: Jeffrey Bauer Chairman Calderone called the meeting to order at 1:05 PM. 1. Call to Order 2. Discussion re: Mellonville Property The purpose of today's meeting was for each entity to present ideas on how the property can better serve the community. CITY COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 14, 2016 SPECIAL JOINT WORK SESSION Deputy City Manager Tom George presented a PowerPoint presentation that outlined the history of the Mellonville property. He said that it has always served the public. Mayor Triplett said that he would like to see the property continue to serve the public. He said that his goal for the property is to develop and create additional ball fields, parking and perhaps a sports training center. Seminole County School Board Executive Director of Operations, Joe Ranaldi, said that currently they are utilizing two buildings on the property for storage; however, the buildings are falling apart and they are in the process of moving out of the buildings. It would be great if they could re- locate stored items into the A -10 building which is also on the property. Mayor Triplett said that the City is currently using the A -10 building for instructional use. SCSB Member Dede Schaffner asked Mr. Ranaldi if there are any other locations to consider and he said that there is not. Mayor Triplett said that he is not interested in a storage warehouse on the site with trucks coming in/out with so many children on the property. Mr. George suggested that the former gymnastics building may be a potential site that the SCSB could use for storage, and if they are interested the two entities could potentially do a swap. There was a consensus among the SCSB and the City Commission to move forward with Mr. George and Mr. Ranaldi meeting to discuss and review properties. Upon completion of this, a joint meeting will be scheduled to discuss. 3. Open Discussion CITY COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 149 2016 SPECIAL JOINT WORK SESSION Commissioner Mahany thanked the SCSB for working with the City and putting sidewalks in along the front of The Retreat at Twin Lakes. She also mentioned that she has received several phone calls from parents of children attending Seminole High School about a home on Ridgewood with a large amount of trash that does not get picked up until late. Commissioner Mahany asked Mr. George to contact Waste Pro for an earlier pick up. Lastly, Commissioner Mahany asked for an update on the JPA. Mr. Ranaldi said that it is a work in progress. School Superintendent Dr. Walt Griffin gave a brief update of what is happening and what we can look forward to in the Seminole County Schools.
