Identification and discussion of significant programs, policies,
projects or initiatives that the City should consider in the next few

SPECIAL WORK SESSION
The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Special Work
Session on Monday, February 6, 2017, at 4:00 PM, in the Railroad Depot Room, 2 °d
Floor, City Hall, 300 North Park Avenue, Sanford, Florida.
Present: Mayor Jeff Triplett
Vice Mayor Patty Mahany
Commissioner Art Woodruff
Commissioner Velma Williams
Commissioner Patrick Austin
City Manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr.
Deputy City Clerk Traci Houchin
Absent: City Clerk Cynthia Porter
Mayor Triplett called the meeting to order at 4:06 PM.
1. Identification and discussion of issues, concerns, trends and opportunities
that may affect future City services, programs, policies, finances or
operations. The Commission discussed the following items:
• Complete the current maintenance backlog that exists throughout the City
before moving forward with other projects.
• Consider staffing for growth of the City, especially in police /fire.
• Develop a program for advancement, career path and succession. Enhance
skill set for current employees.
• Eastside Community Center.
• Implement a recruitment program. Reach out to colleges. Look at hiring
minority employees.

• Develop a better oversight of projects; pay attention to detail on projects; City
Manager to provide project updates to the Commission.
• Communications — consider how to go about disseminating info out of City
Hall.
• Comp Plan updates should continue and address the City as a whole.
• Customer Service in utilities.
• Implement or develop an Economic Development Plan that will focus/ target
business types that are needed.
• Implement an action plan (strategies) for the City's depressed areas.
• Litter enforcement, campaign with signage (fines imposed).
• Entry signs (monument signs) throughout the City.
• Marketing program for future growth throughout economic development.
• Technology - move forward with laptops or I -pads for the Commission.
• Streamline permit process (one stop shop).
• Friday working hours at City Hall.
