09-25-17 WS MinutesCITY COMMISSION MINUTES SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 WORK SESSION The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in Work Session on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 4:00 PM, in the Railroad Depot Room, 2nd Floor, City Hall, and 300 North Park Avenue, Sanford, Florida. Present: Mayor Jeff Triplett Vice Mayor Patty Mahany Commissioner Art Woodruff Commissioner Velma Williams (present at 4:16PM) Commissioner Patrick Austin City Manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr. City Attorney William L. Colbert City Clerk Cynthia Porter Deputy City Clerk Traci Houchin Mayor Triplett called the meeting to order at 4:11 PM. 1. Presentation by the Sanford Welcome Center. Brian Casey, President of the Sanford Welcome Center, introduced several members of the Welcome Center who presented a PowerPoint presentation on how they would like the City's support in becoming Sanford's Official Tourism Office. 2. Discussion re: designating an Official City of Sanford Tourism Office. Scott Williams, Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman, presented a PowerPoint presentation on how various entities throughout the City can work together to form a Tourism Taskforce rather than designating one entity. 3. Presentation by the Economic Development Department This item was continued to October 9, 2017. 4. Discussion re: City Seal CITY COMMISSION MINUTES SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 WORK SESSION This item was continued to October 9, 2017. 5. Regular Meeting Items — additional information A. Adopt a General Fund reserve policy of 14% of budgeted expenditures. [Commission Memo 17- 274.D] (RM 8.1)) This is an action item on tonight's agenda. B. Resolution re: post- disaster recovery for Hurricane Irma regarding removal of storm debris from private property. [Commission Memo 17 -279] (RM10.B) This is an action item on tonight's agenda. ADD ON ITEM: Increase purchase orders ($1.2 million) relating to post disaster recovery from Hurricane Irma pertaining to the removal of storm debris. This is an action item on tonight's agenda. 6. Briefing Items 7. City Manager Comments Mr. Bonaparte said that the Charter Review Committee will be holding their first meeting on Thursday, October 5t" at 6 PM. Commissioner Woodruff asked for an update on the Utilities Department and Public Works/Utilities Director Bilal Iftikhar said that staff is working on customer service training with the representatives and that additional phone lines are being installed.
