AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA, THE SAME BEING ENTITLED ~S
THE "BUILDING CODE"; SAID AMENDMENT ADOPTINfG
THE STATE OF FLORIDA MODEL ENERGY EFFICIENCY
BUILDING CODE DATED NOV~BE~,1978, PRRPARED
FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
ADMINISTRATION STATE ENERGY OFFICE,WITH AN
AMENDI~ENT TO EXEMPT FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF
THE CODE ANY COMMERCIAL BUILDING WITH A HEATED
OR COOLED AREA OF LESS THAN 1500 SQUARE FEET;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, CONFLICT AND EFFECT-
IVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Chapter 553, Florida Statutes, Part VI, entitled
"State Minimum Building Codes" requires municipalities to enforce a
minimum energy and lighting efficiency code on all construction
commencing after March 15, 1979; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sanford Building Code does not have
any provisiions and requirements for energy efficiency, and it is
therefore necessary to amend the Building Code to provide for same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY
OF SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That Chapter 6 of the Sanford City Code is
hereby amended by adding a section to be numbered as Section 6-6,
which said section shall read as follows:
Sec. 6-6. ADOPTION OF SANFORD ENERGY EFFICIENCY CODE
The State of Florida Model Energy EfficienCy Building
Code, dated NoVember,1978, prepared for the State of Florida Department
of Administration State Energy Office, as amended, is hereby adopted by
the City and a copy of same, as amended, is filed in the office of the
City Clerk as a matter of permanent record of the City, and thematters
and contents therein are made a part of this Chapter by reference as
fully and completely as if set forth herein, and such copy shall remain
on file in said office, available for public inspec!tion.
SECTION 2: That Section 6 of Chapter 6 of the Sanfo~d City
Code is hereby amended by adding Sectio~ 6-6.1 to read as follows:
Sec. 6-6.1. AMENDMENT
That Section 101.3 of the Florida Model Energy Efficiency
Building Code entitled "Scope" is hereby amended to read: as follows:
(a) 2. Exempt Buildings
f. Any commercial building with a heated or cooled
area of less than 1500 square feet.
SECTION 3: If any. section or portion of a section of
this ordinance proves to be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional,
it shall not be held to invalidate or impair the validity, force,
or effect of any other section or part of this ordinance.
SECTION 4: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5: This ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
