(FS 286.0105) MEETING MINUTES I. CALL TO ORDER/ WELCOME Meeting called to order by Mr. Eddie Cochran at 4:04 PM. II. Introductions Present: Thelisha Thomas — Committee Member Sylvester Wynn — Committee Member Eddie Cochran — Committee Member Rose Washington — Committee Member Charles Wright — Committee Member Fritz Voltaire — Committee Member (late, arrived at 4:14PM) Absent: Lowman Oliver — Committee Member Staff: Andrew Thomas Sheena Britton III. Approval of the August 2019 Meeting Minutes Ms. Thomas made a motion to approve the August Meeting Minutes. Seconded by Ms. Washington and carried unanimously by vote of the Board as follows: Thelisha Thomas Sylvester Wynn Eddie Cochran Lowman Oliver Rose Washington Charles Wright Fritz Voltaire IV. Old Business Aye Aye Aye Aye Aye Aye Absent at time of vote a. Continue discussion on Action Plan edits b. Update on Criminal Justice/Juvenile Justice Report c. Continue update on Educational statistics (drop out, in -building suspensions, out of school suspensions, arrest on school grounds and overall disciplinary actions) d. Committee members sharing experience and community affiliation Mr. Cochran briefly discussed the action plan. He informed the advisory committee that they have until November to submit all comments and additions/editions. The committee agreed that some of the history should be subtracted, however, they would like to keep the "meat" of the plan. Ms. Washington stated, she reviewed the plan and she discussed; the mission statement, history (addressed the feelings of the residents), challenges (education, post -secondary health, criminal justice). Mr. Wright discussed action steps; how will the MBK incorporate mentorship, target number of mentor and mentees. Mr. Wynn asked about age limits. The committee agreed on the ages of 12-24. The committee discussed the mentorship qualifications and decided unanimously to table remainder of the conversation and continue it at the November meeting, in order to stay on topic. The committee suggested reorganizing the information in the plan. The committee agreed to create a condensed version of the plan and keep the original plan as a formal version. Ms. Thomas encouraged the committee to streamline the process and that progress is needed. Mr. Cochran stated that he will have condensed report at the November meeting. The Board discussed committee member's community affiliation. New Business The committee listened to the City Podcast where Mr. Thomas and Mr. Cochran discussed MBK with the City of Sanford's Communication's Officer. The committee watched the News 13 Interview of Kerry Wiggins, Commissioner District 2, discussing the City's MBK program. The Committee briefly discussed the interview. VI. Public Comment None. VII.
