AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, ARTICLE XIX,
OF THE CITY CODE ENTITLED CIVIL SERVICE BOARD
AND CIVIL SERVICE SYSTEM, SECTIONS 2-329, 2-333 AND
2-334(a) OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
SAN FORD AUTHORIZING THE CITY COMMISSION TO
AMEND POSITIONS BY RESOLUTION RATHER THAN BY
ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY,
CONFLICTS, AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission of the City of Sanford to amend
Sections 2-329, 2-333 and 2-334(a) of Chapter 2, Administration, Article XIX, Civil Service
Board and Civil Service System, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sanford
authorizing the City Commission to amend positions by resolution rather than by
ordinance; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That Article XIX, Civil Service Board and Civil Service System, Section
2-329, of the City of Sanford, Code of Ordinances, is hereby deleted in its entirety and the
new Section 2-329 is adopted as follows:
Sec. 2-329. City commission to fix compensation.
The city commission, by resolution or ordinance, shall fix the
pay of all members of the civil service established by this
article. However, members of the same grade in the same
department shall be placed in the same pay grade, and
members of a higher grade shall not be paid less than the
members of the next lower grade.
SECTION 2: That Article XIX, Civil Service Board and Civil Service System, Section
2-333, of the City of Sanford, Code of Ordinances, is hereby deleted in its entirety and the
new Section 2-333 is adopted as follows:
Sec. 2-333. Number of employees in grades and departments.
The city commission, by resolution or ordinance, shall fix the
number of members in each grade of departments, and the
number of members to be employed in each department of the
City.
SECTION ;~: That Article XIX, Civil Service Board and Civil Service System, Section
2-334(a), of the City of Sanford, Code of Ordinances, is hereby deleted in its entirety and
the new Section 2-334(a) is adopted as follows:
Sec. 2-334. Increase or reduction of authorized positions.
(a) The city commission, by resolution or ordinance, may
increase or decrease the number of members of any grade of
any department.
SECTION 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and
the same are hereby revoked;
SECTION 5: That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
