Seconded by Vice Mayor Wiggins and carried by vote of the Commission as follows: Mayor Woodruff Aye Vice Mayor Wiggins Aye Commissioner Britton Aye Commissioner Austin Aye Commissioner Mahany Aye 9) CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT 10) CITY CLERK'S REPORT 11) CITY MANAGER'S REPORT 12) CITIZEN PARTICIPATION CITY COMMISSION MINUTES NOVEMBER 9, 2020 REGULAR MEETING Robert Dannelly, 2422 S. Marshall Avenue, said a week ago, there was a shooting in his neighborhood and the neighbor's car has bullet holes in it. Cars are speeding through the neighborhood all the time. He said the City put up caution signs for a handicapped child in neighborhood because he has Muscular Distrophy. In addition, the City has filled in a ditch located in his back yard; the ditch is now filling with stormwater and backing up into house. Dr. Oscar Pendleton, 2425 Marshall Avenue, said he is afraid to go to his home at night because there have been several shootings. He is recently retired and see cars speeding up and down his street all day long. The neighborhood has a lot of kids and they cannot play outside because it is too dangerous. Craig Gustafson, 2421 Marshall Avenue, said he has a 12 -year-old son that he does not let go outside in the front yard without him and that he does not allow him to go to the park down the street because of all the shootings and speeding cars. Mr. Gustafson said he loves Sanford and his neighborhood. He does not want to move but will consider that as an option if something is not done. He too, said that he was happy when the City filled in the ditch in the neighborhood, however, but now after it rains it was worse than before. Victor Arteaga, 2717 S Marshall Avenue, said he is here for the same reason as his neighbors. He said that he is going to be putting his house up for sale because the neighborhood is just terrible. CITY COMMISSION MINUTES NOVEMBER 9, 2020 REGULAR MEETING After a brief discussion, the Commission asked Deputy Chief Raimondo and Mr. Iftikhar to get with the residents to assist them with their concerns. Deputy Chief Raimondo said Marshall Avenue is a Strategic Priority area and the Police Department is working on getting the situations under control. Vice Mayor Wiggins thanked the residents for speaking up about their concerns and the City Commission will work together with the residents and law enforcement. 13) CITY COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS Vice Mayor Wiggins thanked the Parks and Recreation Department for a job well done on the Youth Flag Football. Commissioner Mahany wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Mayor Woodruff shared a short video of him reading "The City that Talks" book to the City's after school children at the Mellonville Center during the Florida League of Cities Government Week. The Georgetown Historic District was approved. The City will look for new signage to place in the new historical area. Kids for Christmas. Commissioner Austin said that the Jazz Fest event raised $8,000 for with Mayor Woodruff said he had the opportunity to hand out candy for the Sanford Halloween drive thru event that was held at the Westside Center and at the Mellonville Center. He also praised the Air Show. Lockheed Martin looks to be back next year and host an event over Lake Monroe. Lastly, he wished a Happy Thanksgiving to all.
