Seconded by Commissioner Britton and carried by vote of the Commission as follows: Mayor Woodruff Aye Vice Mayor Wiggins Aye CITY COMMISSION MINUTES MAY 109 2021 REGULAR MEETING Commissioner Britton Aye Commissioner Austin Aye Commissioner Mahany Aye 9) CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT 10) CITY CLERK'S REPORT 11) CITY MANAGER'S REPORT Mr. Bonaparte said he would be introducing the Economic Development Project Manager at the next City Commission Work Session. 12) CITIZEN PARTICIPATION 13) CITY COMMISSION REPORTS Commissioner Britton thanked Niecey and Lastandria Gaines from the Corey Donaldson Foundation for attending the Commission meetings. Vice Mayor Wiggins thanked all City staff who supported and participated in the Boys II Men Event a few weekends ago. He said he is looking forward to doing more things with these young men. Mayor Woodruff thanked Vice Mayor Wiggins and Britt Henderson, Supervisor of the Westside Community Center, for all the work that they put into that event. He said it is amazing to see what effect that they both have on those boys. He said it was a very powerful evening. Commissioner Austin said Mr. Henderson is a valuable asset to the City. Vice Mayor Wiggins agreed with Commissioner Austin. Vice Mayor Wiggins said on May 20, 2021, NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement) and the Sanford Police Department will be meeting starting at 6 PM at the Westside — Dr. Velma Williams Community Center for a public event. The event will show CITY COMMISSION MINUTES MAY 109 2021 REGULAR MEETING the public how to deal with situations when the police make a stop and what you should do. Commissioner Austin said Seminole High School had a group of guys in Track & Field that won the State Championship in the 4 x 100 and a member of that group also won the State Championship in the Long Jump. He would like to invite them to a meeting to recognize them. Mayor Woodruff asked Commissioner Austin if he received the email regarding the sound complaint at Executive Cigar over the weekend. Commissioner Austin said he does recall reading that. It is from a resident that lives above the Cigar Bar. Mayor Woodruff said as the Commission, they need to look for balance when hosting events at that location. Mr. Bonaparte introduced Lisa Jones, Parks and Recreation Director to discuss the 4th of July. Ms. Jones said Star Spangler Sanford would be back on July 4, 2021. She said there are some modifications to the event since this is the year of adjustment. The event will run from 7 PM — 10 PM. Ms. Jones said there will be a special guest's reception area and she will advise the Commission once she has more information available. Mr. Bonaparte said there are some new residents living on Marina Isle that were not there the last time the City had fireworks.
