ORDINANCE NO. 3090
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA
DESIGNATING A PORTION OF THAT CERTAIN PROPERTY LYING
BETWEEN PINE AVENUE AND HICKORY AVENUE AND BETWEEN
EAST ELEVENTH STREET AND CELERY AVENUE (HOPPER
ACADEMY) AS A HISTORIC LANDMARKWITHIN THE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA; PROVIDING SEVERABILITY,
CONFLICTS AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Hopper Academy was erected in 1906 with an addition
being constructed in 1916; and
WHEREAS, despite uncertainties and hardships, Hopper Academy
has continued in existence as a focal point of the community and has
for its students; and
WHEREAS, Hopper Academy has historical, architectural and
cultural significance to the community; and
WHEREAS, Hopper Academy is suitable for restoration and
preservation and has educational value for the Sanford community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sanford Historic Preservation Board has
recommended that Hopper Academy be designated a historic landmark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
SECTION 1: That the statements above are true and correct
and are incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2: That the property and building known as Hopper
Academy lying between Pine Avenue and Hickory Avenue and between
Eleventh Street and Celery Avenue be and the same is hereby designated
as an historic landmark within the City Of Sanford.
SECTION 3: That a suitable sign or marker shall be located
on or near the property indicating that the property has been
designated an historic landmark.
SECTION 4: If any section or portion of a section of this
ordinance proves to be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional, it shall
not be held to impair the validity, force or effect of any Other
section or part of this ordinance.
SECTION 5: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith be and the same are hereby revoked.
SECTION 6: That this ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
