Interim City Manager George stated that the purpose of the meeting is to
provide information and receive input from the public on a proposal to adjust the ad
valorem (property taxes) millage rate by 0.5 mills from 6.325 to 6.825.
Mr. George explained that the 2011 budget is balanced and that the
proposed 0.5 mil increase will provide revenue for the 2012 budget. He gave a power
point presentation regarding the 2012 budget needs and the result of reductions to City
operations if the decision to adjust the millage is delayed until next year. Further, that
delay would cause the need to increase the millage 1.0 mils to an ad valorem rate of
7.325 in order to generate the revenues necessary to avoid reductions in 2012.
Various citizens provided input and discussion regarding the proposed
millage rate increase.
