The windows and design wind pressures (D.P.) considered are reported in ATI report 01-43263.02. Specifically: H-LC30 44x77, D.P. _ +/- 30.0 PSF; H-LC45* 44x60, D.P. _ +/- 45.0 PSF; H-LC45* 3602, D.P. = 45.0 PSF. My analysis assumed using #8 wood screws with a minimum penetration to the wood framing of 1-1/4". The wood framing must be Spruce -Pine -Fir with a specific gravity of G=0.42 or better. To safely resist the design wind pressure of the three sizes considered, 6 such screws are required. At installation, use three screws in each jamb: one near the top corner, one near midspan and one near the bottom corner. If you have any questions regarding my analysis, please contact me. The specimen was. nailing -fin mounted with the fin embedded in silicone sealant. The fin was secured with 48 x 2-1/2" long wood screws located 9" on center around the perimeter. The 07HP replacement window was installed in a 2 x 10 wood test buck constructed from Spruce -Pine -Fir construction lumber. The specimen was secured using six (6) #8 by 2-1/2" long wood screws, one top, center, and bottom of each jamb. Silicone was used to seal the interior and exterior frame perimeter with the exception of a 6" long wrap at the interior sill corners. Company 3773 State Road Akron, Ohio 44309-1365 RE: Masonry Installation of 07HP, Single Hung Window, 3' 8" by 5' 0" Dear Mr. Fernbaugh: At your request, I have performed an installation fastener analyses into masonry block walls for Alside single hung windows, Model 07HP. The testing of the actual windows was done under ATI project 01-43263.01. The fastener analyses provides a 3' 8" wide by 5' 0" high window with an allowable installation design wind pressure (D.P.) of +/- 45.0 psf. To provide this D.P. in a masonry block wall requires 6 Tapcons, each 3/16 in diameter. There should be 3 Tapcons through each window jamb frame, one near the top, one at the midheight, and one near the bottom. The minimum embedment of the Tapcons into solid masonry must be 1-1/4". These results are appropriate for the size window stated in the first paragraph above, and any size smaller. If there are any questions about this analyses, please advise me.
