available. The Principal offers dental Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), an Exclusive Provider Organization
(EPO), and a Dental Pre -Paid plan in select geographic areas. These options can represent savings of 20% or more off
your current rates. Call your agent or representative of The Principal to discuss the availability of these options in your
area.
If you currently have a dental or voluntary dental PPO benefit design, there may also be a lower cost alternative
available. The Principal offers a large selection of PPO benefit designs, which could represent a savings of 5 -10% off
your current rates. Call your agent or representative of The Principal to discuss lower cost alternative benefit designs.
What happens next?
Your payment of the premium due for coverage on and after the anniversary date will be your acceptance of your
benefits and rates, as shown in this letter.

New Privacy ID number helps
protect your employees from identity theft

Principal Life Insurance Company takes privacy and fraud prevention seriously. To help prevent identity theft, we're
implementing a new Privacy ID number for our group customers.
Identity theft is becoming a bigger concern for many Americans. Our new Privacy ID number addresses this consumer
concern and allows us to comply with state laws requiring us to remove Social Security numbers (SSNs) from
materials, such as correspondence, medical ID cards and explanations of benefits.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOUR PRINCIPAL LIFE COVERAGE
Shortly after your next anniversary date, we will assign Privacy ID numbers for your covered employees.
• We will still require SSNs on enrollment applications for new employees. We will continue to protect this and
other personal information gathered from customers as required by various laws as well as our privacy policy.
• Each enrolled member will receive a Privacy ID that will appear on correspondence, ID cards (as applicable) and
other documents. This ID is a randomly generated nine -digit number starting with 9. The Social Security
Administration does not issue SSNs beginning with 9 except in rare circumstances.
• You will receive new ID cards with Privacy IDs instead of the member's SSN soon.
• The Personal Login section of www.principal.com will continue to use SSNs as members' ID number because this
is a secure site that includes encryption and other safeguards for private information.
Our commitment to protecting customers' private information, including the SSNs, is another reason why you and your
employees can trust Principal Life with your employee benefit needs.
